The Cannabis Regulatory Authority Board of Directors and Management joined a high-level Corporate Governance training organised by the Department of Statutory Corporations and the Malawi School of Government, aimed at enhancing performance and strengthening economic recovery in State Corporations.
Speaking at the Official opening ceremony for the First Cohort, Mr. Stuart Ligomeka, Deputy Chief Secretary and Comptroller of Statutory Corporations, emphasized that every Board member must understand their institution’s mandate, operate with integrity, and ensure public accountability. State Corporations are expected to deliver results with the discipline and efficiency of the private sector.
Directors were reminded that performance is paramount. Therefore, Boards overseeing loss-making entities that fail to improve or to uphold their fiduciary duties will face consequences. We will tie leadership positions and salary increments to performance to ensure accountability and results-driven governance.
As key drivers of Malawi’s economic development, CRA and other State Corporations are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, diligence, and public service. The training concluded with a call for all Board of Directors members to learn from past mistakes, act responsibly, and contribute to positive change for the nation’s 22 million citizens.
